SQL 2008 End of Support is Almost Here

request more info

Microsoft SQL and Windows Server 2008 end of support is closing in - fast.

what is happening?

Microsoft has announced the end of support for SQL 2008 to take place by July 9, 2019 and Windows Server 2008 by January 14, 2020 - two dates that are quickly approaching if you don't have an exit strategy in place.

Why You Should Care:

CYBER SECURITY - The end of support will result in exposure to cyber attacks and vulnerabilities once security patches are no longer provided, exposing applications and important data running on unsupported versions to published security vulnerabilities.

COMPLIANCE - Running software without proper security updates may result in failure to meet compliance requirements. Your organization needs a strategy that includes uninterrupted, critical security updates - a must in many regulated industries.

MODERNIZATION - The shift from end of support presents an opportunity to upgrade and modernize your legacy application stack. Not only would this potential allow for more security, higher performance and improvements, modernizing your cloud environment could also accelerate your business strategy.

Your Options

  1. DO NOTHING AND RECEIVE NO SECURITY UPDATES.

  2. UPGRADE ON-PREMISE TO STAY PROTECTED.
    1. Upgrade to SQL Server 2012 through SQL Server 2017 for greater security, performance availability and innovation with cloud analytics
    2. Upgrade to Windows Server 2012 through Windows Server 2016 for benefits from Shielded VMs, storage replicas and Host Guardian Service. Organizations may choose to purchase up to three additional years of Extended Security Updates

  3. MIGRATE YOUR WORKLOADS TO CLOUD (AWS, AZURE, PRIVATE)
    1. Re-host your SQL Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 with no application code changes in Virtual Machines
    2. Use existing Microsoft licenses and save money.
